I truly enjoy coaching and focus on helping players improve their technical skills and abilities. I pride myself on being a positive role model and having a positive impact on our youth both on and off the field. I always reinforce a player's focus on education and strive to develop players in preparation of receiving a higher education and become positive role models through competitive team sports.

What you shout

“KEEPER!”

Right of way called by the goalkeeper on the path to obtain possession of the ball.

Where the ball is: Ball dropping into your box, in front of goal, with defenders and attackers converging.
When you call it: Call it early and loud the moment you commit — one call, then go win the ball with your hands.

Source & method

Every command on this page — the name, the definition and when to call it — comes from the EC Revolution Goalkeeper Academy terminology sheet, supplied by Goalkeeper Academy Director Victor Bañuelos. Nothing here is invented: the vocabulary is the club's, so a keeper moving between Revolution teams hears the same words from every coach.

The pitch scenarios are visual illustrations of those written cues, drawn to show where the ball and players typically are when the call is made. There is no governing-body standard for goalkeeper hand signals, so this resource deliberately teaches the voice command only — if your coach adds a signal, follow your coach.

KeeperRight of way called by the goalkeeper on the path to obtain possession of the ball.
Away / ClearClear the ball out of the defending area.
Play back (Support)Pass the ball back to the assisting player (midfielder, defender, goalie).
Take space / CarryDribble the ball toward the opposing goal with little or no pressure from the opposing team.
TimeNo opposing pressure, which allows the player to settle down and dribble or pass under control.
Out wideTo move to the outside edge of the field, toward the sideline.
SwitchSwitch ball possession from one side of the field to the other.
Push upPush the defense up to play the offside trap or begin a counter-attack on the opposing team.
Shift (left / right)Have the entire team move to the side of where the ball is being played by the opponent.
Drop backCall teammates back to your own goal to help defend.
Mark upEnsure all opposing attackers are marked up by the team.
Goal sideWhen marking an opposing player, place the teammate between the opposing player and his path to your own goal.
Man onCall to a teammate with possession of the ball to warn of arriving opposing pressure.
Player on (left / right) shoulderNotifying a teammate of upcoming pressure or presence when they either have possession of the ball or anticipate the ball being played to the vicinity.
Turn (left / right)Notifying a teammate of which side to turn to when their back is to the field and they are unaware of pressure.
No turnNotifying a teammate of immediate pressure when their back is to the field and they are unaware of pressure.
No shotHaving a teammate maintain position in front of the attacker to eliminate the possibility of a shot.
Press or StepTo mark an opponent immediately and stay tight to prevent a forward pass or dribble.
ContainSlow down the opposing player with the ball in order to allow defensive assistance.
CoverProvide defensive assistance to a teammate already defending the attacker with the ball.
Force (left / right)Having teammates shepherd attackers toward defensive assistance or away from goal.
"#" on wallThe number of players on the free kick wall defending the trajectory of the ball to goal.
"name" on the ballImmediately place a specific teammate in front of the ball on a free kick to ensure the ball is not kicked immediately after the free kick is awarded.
